Mankind has been endeavoring to communicate and keeping records whilst developing civilization.
In the begging, people communicated through symbols or characters, which further developed
into keeping records and to the mass media. The mass media was introduced between 17th and 18th century.
Since the development of print typography, the demand for social information increased whereby the mass media world
begins in earnest as a means to convey information to many people.
The process of the mass media development is going through a period of transition
in the order of print media-propagation media-new media-multimedia.
The invention of paper and printing brought forward the growth of publication, which may seen as the very first mass media;
amid the development of commerce and industrial revolution, newspapers and
magazines are introduced aiming to deliver the news at home and abroad. In the late 19th century,
a technology that can reproduce people’s voice and shapes of objects, created movies, radio and music.
The development of electronic technology enabled the advent of television, new media, and multimedia.
The key variable in such development process of the mess media is the political, social, economic,
and cultural circumstances the times is facing. That is, new media form has continued to develop
when new communication technology is developed and the times require the extensive use of the new technology.
Gutenberg's print typography has come into wide use due to the social necessity known as increased demand
for books thanks to religious reform or the new emerging bourgeoisie,
whereas newspapers and magazines become widely read due to the need for economic information
according to the increased international commerce and the formation of a potential readership
in accordance with the urbanization.
Through the 1st and 2nd World War, communication and electronics-related technology for radio
and television have evolved rapidly and they were recognized in the perspective
that advertisement is necessary of which boost product sales amid the great depression after the war. As such, the evolution of the mass media reveals its sophisticated features by carrying out
a significant role in the changing history in the beginning of a spiral transition of human history.
Today, unlike the past, the mass media has a close relationship with our lives.
Even the popularity of art kept on growing.
Hence, I would like to observe and experiment the history of mass communication,
the popularity and the relevancy of art in a third-party perspective.
Jangyoung Jung
Until 2007 Jangyoung Jung liked to be called “Specific observer”. As we can see from his works,
Jangyoung was used to hide and observe the different phenomena that occur in society and
he tried to communicate and understand through it. He tried to reflect his method in his work
“I’m observing, and I am observed”.
He put the phenomena derived from the public space into many different slides (26 x 76 mm) and
sealed it. It was a very selfish behavior because he built a castle that was made of slides so that
no one could possibly enter and only could see inside.

Take myself to a corner, who used to watch, listen, and touch
and erect tentacles once again.”
We can see the strong volition from his “Artist note” at that period.
After that, Jangyoung Jung perceived the inconsistency about communication, and he tried to
communicate with subject again. He put an effort and it can be clearly seen in his work
“A some murder case”. He is no longer an observer; however, he turned out to be more aggressive and
tried to face with the subject directly. From this work he observes and communicates much more
closely to the subject. In my personal opinion, these steps
that are fulfilling artist’s natural desire can be called “metamorphosis”.
He still tries to transform himself as a little boy, a religious person, a politician,
all human kinds, and even tries to change materially. Maybe author read
“die Verwandlung” of Franz Kafka at that period.
We can figure out his conclusion that he made from his recent work.
Neither Jangyoung Jung put an endeavor to communicate nor to observe the subject anymore.
He admitted that he cannot communicate with the subject even though he truly desired for.
He does not need to change anymore because he has changed already.
We can see his settlement that he made from his recent work called “Communication Mutant”.
Aristotle, a famous philosopher, has mentioned about communication in “Rhetoric” Specifically,
how to communicate with the subject smoothly.
This theory has demonstrated after 20th century when the mass media occurred.
In modern society, communication is the most important thing to do; however,
an artist transmuted the essence of communication himself like he was transmuted,transformed,modified.

Communication skill is extremely important to human beings; yet, it also has numerous problems.
After successful communication, what comes next is information.
We are living in the information society, and we are unable to do anything without information.
I often find problems through human’s invention of communication such as mass media.
some of the best communication skills are probably looking, speaking and listening.
Then, we also use media to communicate.
Television is the most essential medium which provides direct information; consequently,
it’s influence can be potentially dangerous to society.
Television was invented around 1920s, and it had been widespread throughout the world.
Every second, television sends a lot of information to the people around the world unilaterally.
Viewers choose whether to receive information from TV or not, yet TV sets always appear in people’s living rooms.
Television news report is the best information source these days.
Since 1938, anyone who had owned TV could share information.
There is another problem in communication which is language.
Different countries’ news reports contain their own distinctive languages.
People who have not learned these languages well may have a hard time understanding news materials and
receive wrong information as a result.
I reappear and observe this situations with news of various languages.

But what we call as “language” here is the subject from mass media that
an artist misunderstands. And now, he comprehended the subject easily,
so he no longer tried to consider nor to understand the subject anymore.
He faced with the mass -communication directly and creating new relationship with it.
In summation, I would like to call him as “Mutant” who related in communication or
“Moratorium Human” because he truly believed that it is the real communication.
Moratorium Human : Erik Erikson (June 15, 1902 – May 12, 1994), German Philospher,
said that the person who is not commited to the social identity is moratorium human.

Communication skill is extremely important to human beings; yet, it also has numerous problems.

So often I get wrong information and don’t understand.
I’m interested in this situation.
I listen to news in 5 different languages and write contents in Korean at the same time.
But all or 95% of the content is wrong.
And then I dub 5 news into my 5 different language voices with my contents.
This work is seen through 5 different news and my observation.
News are very important information about all and we rely on news and believe that.
It’s our teacher for everything.
But if this is wrong news or you can’t understand it, what happens there?
We get other information or wrong information.
I want to observe this situation.
This time I show the first part of my video project with the title “a some news”.

Mehr noch als dem Studiolo des 15. Jahrhunderts ist der später folgenden Wunderkammer das Moment der Bewegung und das der Entdeckung durch Beobachtung implizit. Durchschritt man eine dieser ohnehin schon kleinräumig-komprimierten Welten, so waren im 17. Jahrhundert noch weitere Miniaturisierungen zu entdecken: aufklappbare und in unzähligen Verästelungen einsehbare Schränke, bestückt mit Objekten, Kunstwerken in Kirschkerngröße oder mit optischen Spielereien alles in Augenhöhe. Auch bei diesen Raum-im-Raum-Konstruktionen war das Sammeln von zu Form geronnenen Beobachtungen und Erkenntnissen eine wesentliche Grundlage.
Diese Elemente sind ebenfalls für die Arbeit des aus Süd-Korea stammenden Jang Young wichtig, insbesondere für die im KunstRaum Wunderkammer gezeigten Skulpturen bzw. die Modellarchitektur, in Gestalt einer kubischen Stele.
Gewohnt, vor allem mit der Kamera zu arbeiten und seine Umgebung durch den schmalen Kanal des klassischen Kamerasuchers oder den kleinen digitalen Bildschirm wahrzunehmen, sammelt er unterschiedlichste Szenen oder Dinge. Er verkleinert sie sowohl zweidimensional bildnerisch als auch dreidimensional skulptural auf die Größe von Objektträgern, die zugleich ihr Medium, ihr Seinshintergrund sind. Bisweilen ist der Zugriff sezierend, erinnert also an die eher typische naturwissenschaftliche Instrumentalisierung: Da gibt es Jang-young Jungs eigene konservierte Bandscheibe oder scheibchenweise hintereinander gestaffelte Portraits, gewandelt zu plastischen Hologrammen. Andere Szenen zeigen Menschengruppen, Einzelwesen, Baumreihen, oder auch Skurrilitäten wie Fische mit Mikrofonen.
Die festgehaltenen Ansichten und Phantasien resultieren meistens aus der Bewegung – aus Beobachtungen, die Jang-young Jung bei Streifzügen durch Stuttgart oder andere Städte gemacht hat –; in den aktenkofferähnlichen Elementen sind sie darüber hinaus ihrerseits zu bewegen. Erst wenn wir die ‚Koffer’ als Bedeutungsträger, aber auch als Transport-Instrument des Zeigens bzw. Betrachtetwerdens nachvollziehen / mitdenken, ist diese Arbeit komplett.
Skulpturales Statement und performativer Akt sind untrennbar verbunden. Keine Frage: Die vierseitige Stele – der statische Teil der Installation – ist kein Schrank, der sich erst durch das Aufklappen erschließt; hier tritt Vieles unmittelbarer zu Tage. Dennoch begeben sich auch hier die Betrachter mit ihren individuellen Blickwinkeln auf die Spur von Redundanzen, Durchblicken und Vielfältigkeiten, können sie raffinierte perspektivische Ansichten und phantasievolle Kunstwerke auf kleinstem Raum entdecken. Wie bei einem einsehbaren Schrank, so öffnet sich auch hier partiell die monolithische Geschlossenheit durch Lichteinfall, und erlaubt durch die neugierig-staunende Bewegung rund um die Stele tiefergehende Einsichten in Jang Young gefrorene Beobachtungen.

Eine mit langen Haaren geht vorbei.

Auf der Straße zeige ich gerne meinen Stolz.
Ich fühle mich schlecht, weil einer meine langen Haare anstarrt.
......
Ich schaue zum Fenster hinaus.
Er, der eine Pfeife raucht, geht vorbei.

Einer der beobachtet und einer der beobachtet wird.
Ich bin keiner von denen.
Denn ich bin beides.
"Jemanden zu beobachten" ist etwas Ungewöhnliches.
Doch, ich beobachte ständig und werde auch beobachtet.
Nachbarn, Passanten, Fremde ...... die Anderen.
Der Objektträger (26 x 76 mm) ist die kleinste Einheit meiner Vorstellung.
Mit ihm schaffe ich meine eigene Welt.
Mir doch egal was ihr tut!
Macht es!

Es war einmal ein Mann.
Er war immer allein.
Aber er war nicht einsam und nicht traurig,
weil sein eigner Körper sein einziger Feund war und ebenfalls seine Familie.
In einem Tag hatte er plötzlich einen Gedanke,
und zwar wollte er ein Haus(Traum) haben.
Er ging mit seinem einzigen Freund, seinem Körper weg,
auf breites Feld, in verbrennede Wüste und sogar an endloses Meer......
Trotzdem fand er noch nicht.
Ihre Reise wurden länger.
Er und sein Freund wurden immer älter und müder.
Sie vergaßen nach und nach, was sie suchen wollten.
Schließlich wurde ihre Reise sinnlos.
Er sagte „Ich bin müde....... ich will nach Heim zurückgehen.“
Als er nach Heim zurück kam, fand er im Spiegel etwas.
Das war......
Sein Kopf war ein schönes risiges Haus(Traum).
Er hatte schon......
Vielleicht wollen wir jetzt auch dieses Haus suchen oder haben schon?
